Victorian period to the present.

COMING SOON!

BiblioVerify, an electronic book database for the verification of first printings of literary first editions by American and British authors from the late Victorian period to the present, is currently restricted to authors largely known for their work in the science fiction, fantasy, and horror genres.

The database includes the books of the 215 authors in L. W. Currey's SCIENCE FICTION AND FANTASY AUTHORS: A BIBLIOGRAPHY OF THEIR FICTION AND SELECTED NONFICTION (Boston: G. K. Hall, 1979), revised and corrected CD-ROM (Olathe, KS: RB Publishing, 2002). The cutoff date for publications by these authors was 31 December 1977. This database is currently EXPANDING all checklists to 1990, and as time permits, to the present.

In addition, the database ADDS the books of 145 authors not included in CURREY (1979; 2002). Some of the new lists are incomplete drafts, but others are complete (or nearly so) into the 1990s. Currently, there are approximately 10,000 VERIFIED records available in the database.

* BiblioVerify is adding additional authors, including writers not associated with the science fiction, fantasy, and horror genres. The initial emphasis will be on twentieth century writers of popular fiction, but the long term goal is to cover a wide spectrum of collectible American and British literary first editions from the late 1800s to the end of the twentieth century. Many of these checklists are being prepared by knowledgeable independent scholars and collectors whose by-lined lists will be added to the BiblioVerify database when completed. If you wish to participate in this on-going project, please contact us. Feedback is welcome. Please let us know what subject authors you would like to see included and your ideas for improving the website.

* BiblioVerify currently records approximately 10,000 fiction and selected nonfiction titles. Where applicable, the subject author lists also include (1) edited books of fiction; (2) associational fiction (books by others based on the subject author's fictional work); (3) nonfiction relating to the science fiction and fantasy genres; (4) autobiography, letters, journals, and miscellanea.

* BiblioVerify provides complete descriptions of first editions. Each book record includes the following data: (1) title; (2) place of publication, publisher, and date of publication; (3) binding (if not full cloth); and (4) transcription of publisher's statement of edition where present. In addition, where applicable, points of binding and printing states and issues are recorded. Book stock number and price are provided for all mass market paperback titles. Titles forming part of a numbered series are indicated. Miscellaneous notes provide additional information on printing, binding, or distribution for many entries.

* Currey's book, SCIENCE FICTION AND FANTASY AUTHORS: A BIBLIOGRAPHY OF FIRST PRINTINGS OF THEIR FICTION AND NONFICTION (1979; REVISED EDITION 2002), is considered a standard reference in the field. As the most comprehensive author bibliography to identify and describe first editions by science fiction and fantasy authors, this volume is the standard reference tool for collectors, librarians, researchers, and booksellers. BiblioVerify makes finding the information, and making use of the information in electronic form, easy.

* BiblioVerify can be searched by author, pseudonym, title, or book description. You can "copy & paste" the information for your own use, via your web browser.

* BiblioVerify costs $49.95, and gives you complete access for 1 year. Our SECURE credit card processing system accepts VISA and MASTERCARD.
