Currey's SCIENCE FICTION AND FANTASY AUTHORS (1979; 2002) could not have been completed without the effort and support of Gerry de la Ree of Saddle River, New Jersey, and David G. Hartwell of Pleasantville, New York - two long-time friends and colleagues who provided full access to their extensive private collections of fantasy and science fiction and their vast personal knowledge of these genres. Research facilities crucial to the creation of comprehensive checklists were provided by Ms. Doris Mehegan (Spaced Out Library, Toronto Public Libraries) and Messrs. Malcolm Edwards and David Pringle (Science Fiction Foundation, North East London Polytechnic) who provided good counsel as well as good fellowship. I am also indebted to Miss Binnie S. Braunstein (University of Maryland, Baltimore County) for aid in tracking down fugitive titles through the OCLC data system; Charles N. Brown (Locus Publications), who graciously responded to hours of bibliographical queries; Frank Pipes, who hosted my week-long sojourn in Washington; William Matheson (Head, Rare Book Division, Library of Congress) who guided me through the labyrinth of the library; Miss E. M. Plincke (Curator, H. G. Wells Collection, Bromley Central Library); Donn Albright, who answered endless questions pertaining to Ray Bradbury; Michael Moorcock, John Clute, and Peter Nicholls for their London hospitality; Margaret and Brian Aldiss, who provided an Oxford connection; Eric Korn for sharing his bibliographical knowledge of H. G. Wells; George Locke who displayed his collection, his knowledge, and his hospitality; Mike Burgess (alias R. Reginald) for midnight telephone conferences; Sam Moskowitz, who responded graciously to numerous bibliographical queries; Bruce Francis, who shared his Theodore Sturgeon collection; Roy A. Squires, who provided necessary bibliographical minutiae as well as a great Mexican dinner; Roger Schlobin, who shared his Andre Norton research; Kevin B. Hancer, who helped with ERB; Peter B. Howard (Serendipity Books) for posing a number of difficult questions; Harvey J. Satty, who helped with Olaf Stapledon; David Y. Hughes, who supplied crucial material on Wells; Melissa and Mark Hime, who responded to endless queries about J. R. R. Tolkien; and Mike Ashley for information on E. C. Tubb. Thanks are also due to C. W. Brooks, Jr., Robert E. Briney, Donald M. Grant, Henry H. Heins, Vernell Coriell, Giancarlo Cavagna, Marshall Tymn, Stuart W. My thanks to all who responded. I am especially indebted to Robert Bloch, Nelson Bond, John Brunner, H. K. Bulmer, Lin Carter, Arthur C. Clarke, Catherine C. and L. Sprague de Camp, Samuel R. I alone am responsible for any remaining errors and omissions. The advice and support of Tom Beeler, Publisher of G. K. Hall & Co., provided the impetus needed to finish the book. The editorial assistance of Deborah Pokos and Paul Wright is gratefully acknowledged.

Thanks also to publisher Ron Brown who convinced me to reissue the book, converted the text to electronic format, and spent considerable effort formatting and copy-editing the manuscript, and to my wife Carole for her constant support on the home front.
